Retreading Process
Marangoni Retreading, a unique retread process offered by Wilson County Tire.
-
01Professional InspectionHighly qualified operators, using equipment specifically developed by Marangoni, determine the characteristics of the casings and select the best ones for retreading. A visual inspection from bead to bead, inside and out is completed to locate any visible defects. Next, an electronic inspection is done to located penetrations in the crown and sidewall areas.Next: Computerized Buffing
-
02Computerized BuffingThe casing is inflated to the proper operational pressure in order to contour the tire for the correct radius. The worn tread surface is removed, the tire trues-up leaving a surface on the casing that provides the best possible adhesion value for the new tread to be applied.Next: Tire Repair
-
03SkivingAny imperfect areas are then refined with our skiving process. This smoothes the rubber and broken wires in the belt package to prepare it for rubber extrusion application, leaving a nice, clean surface.Next: Repair
-
04Tire RepairAll identified injuries are replaced with structurally sound materials that will return the casing and the tire to its useful life, effectively a new life cycle.Next: Cushion Extrusion
-
05Cushion ExtrusionA thin layer of high-tack, 100% natural rubber is applied to the buffed casing to an exact specified width and depth while automatically filling in any buzz-outs in the tread area. This thin layer of rubber becomes the base for the extruded tread rubber. This promotes tread-to-casing adhesion values that rival that of new tires.Next: Ring Tread Application
-
06Ring Tread ApplicationThe addition of the ring tread ensures a completely uniform application of the ring, without joints, on the entire circumference of the casing without any deformation. Human error is eliminated due to the fast and accurate machines - total automation.Next: Enveloping
-
07EnvelopingThe assembled but uncured tire is encased in an elastic envelope and prepared for the curing process. The envelope is vacuum sealed to the tire so no air may enter the envelope and cause a miscure.Next: Curing
-
08CuringAn autoclave-type device applies heat and pressure, and over time causes the bonding layer in the tire to cure, permanently adhering the new tread to the prepared casing.Next: Final Inspection
-
09Final InspectionAfter the molding and curing process there is a very thorough final inspection of the retreaded tire to ensure that the quality of the final product is at an unrivaled level. The tire is run over the NDT one last time.
